💡Studying Tips & Tricks

• Keep up with the news throughout the school year! If your argument essay prompt requires contemporary evidence, you won’t be able to use past literature, nor history to support your claim. In this case, you’ll be glad that you’ve kept up with what’s going on in the world!
• Focus in history class! If your argument essay prompt doesn’t specify that your evidence must be contemporary, feel free to take the knowledge you’ve acquired in history class to support your ideas!
• Take advantage of your SAT and ACT reading prep to help you with AP Lang. (And vice versa!) While studying for either AP Lang or one of these exams, time yourself reading passages and answering the multiple choice questions that follow in order to increase your speed and efficiency.
• Practice the exact AP questions! Reading and writing more in your daily life is great for studying for AP Lang, but studying the explicit types of essays you’ll be writing
• Think about rhetoric and argument to optimize your studying. Understanding the content of a passage is important, but understanding what the author is arguing and how they make their argument is just as if not more important to the AP Lang exam.

Studying for AP Lang can take a lot of time! When it comes closer to test day and you increase your studying time you have to make sure you are eating and drinking enough. It is incredibly hard to stay motivated and study effectively when you are dehydrated and/or malnourished.
